While multimodal configurations such as Hybrid and HyFlex models—which combine face-to-face and remote attendance — already existed before the pandemic, the crisis gave them unprecedented visibility as core components of the emergency measures implemented. This very specific situation acted as a trigger, and since then, these models have indeed become part of the strategic planning of many Higher Education institutions, raising the prospect of widespread adoption in the medium to long term.
These configurations hold obvious promises in terms of flexibility and access to Higher Education. As such, they naturally respond to societal trends, among others, but also entail significant transformations at the intersection of institutional, operational, technological, and pedagogical stakes.
This session will explore these different dimensions through evidence-based practices, emerging research, and prospective work, which will provide Faculty, Practitioners, and Stakeholders tangible insights for the consideration or the implementation of mainstream Hybrid and HyFlex programs.

Dr. John Augeri
John Augeri, PhD, is Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning at Ile-de-France Digital University, a consortium of 50+ Higher Education institutions in the Paris area, and Associate Researcher at Sophia University in Tokyo.
As a Practitioner, Researcher, and Faculty Developer, John has been involved internationally for more than a decade in the evolution and transformation of Learning Spaces and Learning Environments, as well as their related stakes and opportunities in the Hybrid and HyFlex contexts.
John has given over 70 talks and keynote speeches on these topics in the USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, Singapore, and Australia. He is internationally involved as an Author, Academic Paper Reviewer, Conference Proposal Reviewer, Expert Panel Member, Advisory Board Member, and Award Juror.
